Abstract
The advent of second generation gravitational wave detectors opened the era of GW astronomy with the first signals from transient sources detected by Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo during the O1 and O2 runs and marked the dawn of multimessenger astronomy thanks to GW170817, the first signal from a binary neutron star coalescence and its associated electromagnetic counterparts. The talk will review the wealth of results provided by the sources reported to date and the prospects for the next observing runs.
